Last month, India Test captain Shubman Gill won the Player of the Month award. Now, another Indian cricketer is set to win it next. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced nominees for August 2025. Fascinatingly, all three of them are bowlers. Mohammed Siraj from India, Matt Henry from New Zealand, and Jayden Seales from the West Indies.

Siraj’s Oval heroics

Siraj only played one match in August, but his performance was such that he’s earned a nomination. The fast bowler stood up when it mattered the most, i.e., when the series was on the line and Jasprit Bumrah was unavailable. Siraj took 9 wickets when India were down 1-2.

This included a 5-wicket haul in the second innings and helped India win when England needed just 73 runs and had 6 wickets in hand. That performance alone was worth the ICC naming him as one of the three players of the month nominees.

Henry & Seales to compete with Siraj

Henry, who took 16 wickets in 2 matches against Zimbabwe, will be one of the competitors. The Kiwi quick averaged just 9.12 and helped New Zealand secure a 2-0 victory.

Seales helped the West Indies secure an ODI series over Pakistan after 34 years. He took a 6-wicket haul in the last match, helping Windies win by 202 runs. Overall, Seales took 10 wickets in 3 matches at an average of 10 and an economy rate of just 4.10.
