Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra heaped praise on Ravichandran Ashwin for deciding to quit IPL despite having a Rs 9.75 crore contract. The former CSK spinner took the world by surprise as he announced his retirement from the cash-rich league in order to explore other T20 leagues across the globe. Congratulating Ashwin for his glorious career, Chopra spoke about how the former Indian cricketer had embarked on a new path and if others would soon follow it.

Will other stars follow Ashwin out of IPL soon?

In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra claimed that Ashwin was charting a new course and that not a lot of other Indian players could follow him. The ex-KKR opener noted that an Indian cricketer had to bid goodbye to rich contracts and retire from the IPL if he wishes to take part in other global T20 leagues. Chopra noted that Ashwin could now take part in The Hundred, SA20 or other leagues and claimed that he would surely succeed in whichever tourney he plays.

“Ashwin is doing something incredibly different. He is writing a different story as he is leaving despite having a Rs 9.75 crore contract. Everyone cannot do that. If someone is bought for less money, no one buys him outside either. If someone is getting good money here, why would he leave? Ashwin is charting a new course, and too many Indian players will not be a part of this course with him,” Chopra opined.

Meanwhile, Ashwin revealed that he had registered for another tournament recently, although he did not divulge further details. On Thursday, reports claimed that the Tamil Nadu spinner could be heading to The Hundred tournament in England. Ashwin himself admitted that he was getting multiple offers from various leagues following his retirement from the IPL.
